Our Story On Broadway

Broken Dreams is a new Vietnamese restaurant on Broadway in the heart of downtown Oakland, but the cooking behind it is anything but new. Our family brings more than 42 years of kitchen experience, much of it shaped by the food and culture of Vietnam. As a family-owned, women-owned, and minority-owned business, we treat every plate the way we would cook for people at our own table.

The menu is built around dishes we grew up with and still love. Our broken rice plates are the backbone of what we do, served with your choice of chicken, beef, pork, seafood, or a vegetarian option. We pour real cream Vietnamese coffee, sweet and strong, and we build fresh vermicelli bowls layered with herbs and greens. On the snack side, we bake fried banh bao and serve wild game pate, so for guests who want something a little different from the usual.

We also keep things bright and light with our Vietnamese salads and a rotating handful of Vietnamese snacks meant for sharing. If you are cooking around dietary needs, we have you covered with vegetarian and vegan choices, as well as gluten-free options, so most tables can find something that works. Whether you are grabbing a quick bowl on your own or feeding a group, we want the food to taste like it came from a home, not a factory.

At Broken Dreams, we keep dine-in seating minimal and simple, and we handle takeaway, delivery, and reservations for anyone who plans.
